Christmas at home with interior architect Pontus Nilvander
The interior architect’s own home, photographed at Christmas in 2009. It shows what returns in every project: respect for the building’s history, old paintings and furniture, and light that makes the rooms warm.

Vaults, brick and candlelight
The living room has a vaulted brick ceiling, an open fireplace and the Christmas tree between the sofas. Chandeliers with real candles, lamps with pleated shades and large paintings give the room depth. In the stair hall lanterns and candles line the steps, with a garland along the wall.
The dining room has a large painting above the table, chairs with patterned seats and sconces on the wall. In the bedroom a tiled stove with hand-painted flowers stands next to the bed.
Christmas styling with what you have
Christmas in this home builds on what is already there: candlesticks, old lamps, a gilded cherub sconce, amaryllis and green branches. The entrance gets two small trees and garlands around the door.
